MLB Draft, Day Two – California Draftees

Thank you MLB.com and the Draft Tracker.

The (soon to be champion?) UCLA Bruins had NINE players drafted on Day Two, led by Rob Rasmussen in the 2nd round (73rd pick overall).  Nice work, Bruins.

Austin Murphy was (finally) selected, way down in the 12th round by St. Louis.  YKI would call this a steal, but Wilson is almost definitely going to attend Stanford at this point.  Darn signability issues. . .

Cal-St. Northridge’s Ryan Pineda was taken in the 28th round bY Oakland, and the Master’s College RHP Joseph Zeller was selected, also in the 28th round.

365 Thomson, Matthew University of San Diego RHP
370 Reed, Austin Rancho Cucamonga HS (CA) RHP
379 Wilson, Austin Harvard-Westlake HS (CA) RF
Comments: Wilson not only has tremendous tools — his raw power being the best of them — he has the work ethic and character to maximize those tools. Still a little bit raw, he does need to improve his overall hitting skills so he’ll be able to consistently tap into that power at the next level. He’s a sponge who soaks up information, so most feel he’ll do just fine down the road. With a plus arm and good speed, the Stanford signee could be a prototypical right fielder in due time, one who doesn’t wait long to hear his name on Draft day.
