HyperLocal Demographic Targeting

Good luck to ESPN on their venture into hyper-local targeting. Would be a strong venture if it can keep updated regularly, with nice fresh content OFTEN. Reminds me of my senior year at UCLA’s Daily Bruin, when we finally ventured into the spooky world of online journalism and created a BruinWalk Portal. Great idea in 1999, but the fact is by the time the site would be updated, it’d be old news (Ironic, right?). Is ESPN going to allow ESPNLosAngeles to ‘break’ stories that come out of L.A. or will the big network/station/site get the content? The smart play is funneling L.A. news through the ESPN L.A. site, as a conduit for the main site. We’ll see – so far, not much more than an AP version of L.A. Times Sports page. . .
